More about Shiners (& other Masons)
The shriners are the most
ornately decorated of all of the various sub-groups of
Masons. They literally love a parade.
Their primary effort is
to support the Shriners' Hospitals (22) for Children across
North America. These hospitals, which treat children from
birth to 18 years old, offer free care for burns, spinal
injuries, and orthopedics, to any child and his family.
This is all paid for by the Shriners and their monumental
philanthropic endeavors. The Shrine Circus is one such
avenue for fund raising.
Shriners, in their delight of
costumes, have such specialties as the Clowns, the Keystone
Kops, the Palomino Patrol, the Arab Patrol, Motorcycle
Patrol, and the Legion of Honor, each with a different focus
and costume for parades, rodeos, performances, and other
means of collecting donations for these children with
special needs.
The Shrine conventions travel
to various cities every year. There are huge Shrine
auditoriums and temples throughout the country, which are
often used by the public for special events, rented out,
again to raise money for the children. They are a
remarkable group of men.
